Academic Strategies for Students Who Want to Excel, Lead & Succeed

Having been around for over 20 years, the Bowie Center has much to celebrate. The Bowie Center continues to move forward with dedication and devotion to helping students who are struggling and needing additional academic support, as well as those who are gifted and are striving to excel.

Knowing that you value the importance of education, we offer a program for students who want to excel above grade level. TASSELS (Teaching Academic Strategies to Students who want to Excel, Lead & Succeed) is an individualized program that supports students of all ages in advanced studies and test prep. Each student will begin with current grade level lessons in the core subjects you choose, including reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, math, and science. As each student advances through the curriculum, we will continue on a challenging path with the goal to have academically gifted students working above at least one grade level above. Students will also learn test prep strategies to support a strong foundation and to build confidence. The Bowie Center’s academic coaches are ready to prepare students for a comprehensive list of achievement tests appropriate for each grade level and up through the ACT and SAT exams.

As parents, you will receive a session summary by email, after each appointment from your child’s academic coach. We feel communication is very important and this will allow you to always have a record of your student’s progress. Each academic coach will be a positive mentor, helping his/her students to set and achieve specific goals while building confidence during each step through:

• Organizing an individualized academic plan for the year.
• Supporting the student through each step while developing strategies that best fit his/her learning style.
• Preventing a student from moving on to a new task before the present one has been mastered.
• Challenging the student to continue reaching for higher goals.
• Cheering and encouraging the student through each achievement.

Student sessions may be scheduled one-to-one or in select small groups. Should your child have friends who would like to form a small group and tutor together, we will be glad to accommodate this request.
